| Coil Pitch Demystified - 4:1 or 5:1? |
 |
|
Plastic coil is regularly measured in 3 ways: diameter,
length
and pitch. Diameter determines the capacity - the
total
number of pages the coil can bind together. The
length is the
measurement that spans the binding edge of the
book. The
most common is 12" for binding along the 11" edge of
a
letter-sized page. Lastly, pitch determines the
number of
punched holes per inch, in effect, the spacing
between the
holes.
The most common pitch is 4:1 (four to one) - 4 holes
per inch.
Some punches for 4:1 coil also refer to their holes as
6mm
apart. Coil with a 5:1 pitch (5 holes per inch) is
another popular
size. There are 3 other pitches, but these are not as
commonly
used.
Not sure what pitch your coil punch uses? You can
simply
measure how many holes show up within the span of
an inch.
Just take a ruler and measure from the center of the
holes.
CFS stocks plastic coils in 4:1 and 5:1 pitches in a
wide
variety of colors and diameters. Standard colors ship
out the
same day; custom color coils usually ship out within 1
to 3
days. Contact one of our product specialists if you
have any
questions.

Meet Chuck Kossuth - Director of Sales & Product
Specialist
Chances are, if you have called or emailed CFS with a
question or order, you have most likely conversed
with Chuck Kossuth, Director of Sales and one of our
key Product Specialists here at CFS. He is
the primary person who answers your questions &
takes orders over the phone, responds to emails and
operates our real-time, online chat tool: CFS Live. In
addition, Chuck designed and heads up maintenance
of our CFS Binding Supplies website. He wears many
more hats, most geared toward making it easier for
CFS to service the needs of its customers.
With 20 plus years experience in graphic
communications and printing, Chuck also brings over
10 years of web design with a focus on developing
effective & intuitive websites. As a graphic designer
for print production along with serving as a customer
service rep/bindery operator for 7 years at a local
print shop, he knows what it takes to finish a job.
This, combined with his product knowledge and a
dedication to providing unparalleled customer service
make Chuck a key part of the CFS team.
"More than just providing solutions to our customers'
needs," says Kossuth, quoting from a marketing
example he heard some time ago, "we look at it from
this point of view. A customer doesn't need a drill
bit... ultimately, they need to put a hole in paper.
CFS is here to provide the best options to get that end
result, at a reasonable price with customer service
that hopefully exceeds their expectations."
Originally joining CFS back in 2000, Chuck was hired to redesign & maintain the CFS websites. He has also been the creative force at CFS behind dealer and operator training programs/DVD’s for manufacturers such as Plockmatic, Graphic Whizard, Lassco-Wizer & JBI.
His obvious passion for helping customers solve their problems & a commitment to superior customer service can be heard in his voice. Many customers have commented on his great attitude and the fact that he takes the time to understand their needs; you can hear his smile over the phone! Chuck is also very effective at educating customers who may be new to an aspect of binding supplies and equipment. He believes in & has used most of the items that CFS sells. More than one customer has asked him if he is the owner of CFS since he is very dedicated, enthusiastic & helpful.
When out of the office Chuck plays upright bass in a local band and enjoys time with his family. He claims he is cursed with ‘techno-lust’ & enjoys cool gadgets – the 2 side-by-side flat panel monitors on his desk are a testament to that fact. He spends much of his time reading/researching ways to constantly improve the CFS websites. Chuck also creates systems and automates much of what goes on behind the scenes at CFS – all to better serve its customers.
Give Chuck a call or drop him an email if you have any questions regarding binding your existing or future projects. He can be reached via phone at 1-888-237-3221 ext. 4507
