VeloBinding is a binding method often used for legal transcripts that allows for safekeeping and a more efficient use of space when filing or stacking and document pages cannot be inserted without destroying the binding. The binding strip, which comes in multiple colors and sizes, is composed of a front strip that contains prongs and a back strip with aligning holes. They are fused together by a specialized VeloBinding machine that also punches the preliminary holes in the document itself.
To perform this method, simply use the VeloBinding machine to punch the inside pages of the document as well as the front and back covers. Next, line up the guiding pinhole on the back strip with the machine’s recessed channel. Once you have jogged the sheets of the document, place them on top of the back strip, and thread each of the front strip’s prongs down through the holes. Conclude the process by placing the pressure bar down on top of the document. The machine will press the two binding strips together and seal the prongs with heat, and it will release when finished.
The resulting seal is permanent; however, in the case of an emergency edit, it can be removed by pulling the seal through a Velo Debinder tool. In certain models of the machine, the sealed prongs may even be softened first by placing the document back into the machine to be reheated. This unique combination of both security and stackability is what makes VeloBinding such a useful technique.
