3to1coilsI'm a huge fan of multi-tasking devices. I perceive a ton of value if a tool can be used for multiple functions or different types of jobs, especially in the kitchen - I love having a well-equipped cooking arsenal. The same appeal applies when I'm at work. I've always thought it was a genius idea that someone created Wire Combs/Spiral-O Wires that fit into the punched hole pattern of plastic comb punching machines. Well, the same multipurpose advantage applies to 3:1 wire punching machines.

Wire punches that create a 3:1 pitch hole pattern (3 holes per inch) allow the use of 3:1 Plastic Coils in addition to metal, preformed double loop wire. After some testing, we found that we prefer the round holes versus square - the coils just seem to wind a bit easier into the round versus square holes, but it wasn't impossible to get the coils into the square shapes.

To finish the coils, the excess length must be trimmed and then the ends crimped to prevent them from spinning out of the books. This finishing procedure is done with coil crimpers - you can use the simple, cost-effective Coil Crimping Pliers or go with an electric model for increased productivity like the Akiles Crimp@Coil.
